Personal Development

Personal Development at Broomfield.

Personal development is both a subject and a school ethos. It is reflected in our 5 school values We want to each child to leave the school feeling confident, unique and proud.

Our aim is to teach children how to navigate through life safely, happily and healthily. Children are growing up in a world that is constantly changing and it is the duty of all the staff at school in partnership with the parents teach the children transferable life skills. We teach children about the world around them, relationships, emotions, reproduction and health, as well as transferable skills to help with life. We consistently promote the British values, UNICEF Rights of a Child and our school values.

At Broomfield Primary School, we are committed to providing a purposeful and empowering curriculum that fully prepares learners for the next steps in their school career and the wider world. We want our children to aspire to achieve and believe that it is essential that they understand the world they live in. Broadening our children’s horizons and giving them the belief that they are capable of achieving great things drives our curriculum. Our Personal Development offer gives the children the knowledge and understanding they need make informed choices and to be a positive influence in the communities that they belong to.

Personal Development is woven in to all aspects of school life at Broomfield Primary and we pride ourselves on providing an environment for all pupils to thrive and mature into well-informed young adults. Our PSHE curriculum underpins this aim in the context of three core themes: relationships, physical health & mental wellbeing and living in the wider world (including economic wellbeing and careers education). We also use the Young Citizens lessons to supplement our offer. There are many carefully considered opportunities for our children to develop their own personal attributes further such as House Captains, Playground Buddies, Dinner Helpers, reading buddies to name a few. Please see the documents below to see how we actively promote the personal development of all pupils.
